If you were having troubles on installing Icinga Reporting, sorry – our bad. During package build, a faulty configure was added and therefore causing the installer to fail. Thanks to our lovely community, the issue was identified and already fixed – thanks tuxifier and formorer!

In order to keep things safe, we’ve replaced the existing broken tar.gz with the new fixed tarball available on sourceforge as usual.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

PS: For those having aclocal, autoconf and automake in place, run the following commands as quickfix on the previous tarball:

$ rm configure ; aclocal ; autoconf

Note: Upon upgrading, please update your configurations as we have:

moved bindir/idomod.o to libdir/idomod.so

moved /var/icinga to /var/spool/icinga in icinga.spec (upgrade safe)

renamed icinga-idoutils rpm to icinga-idoutils-libdbi-mysql|pgsql in icinga.spec

–enable-libtap is deprecated, make test now works out-of-the-box with rewritten tests

| JUMP TO CHANGE LOG SUMMARY |

The changes to heed above have helped us make packaging easier, as now the libraries are where most packagers expect them to be.

Of note, we have resolved a long-neglected bug that afflicted the Icinga/Nagios core, so that flexible downtimes now last the duration specified once triggered. Beyond this, event looping has been minimized when rescheduling checks – something that should reduce CPU load and improve performance. Kudos to Andreas Ericsson and Matthias Kettner for the initial patch!

In the Classic UI we have two new views – ‘CGI Config Options’ to see user authorizations, and ‘Modified Attributes’ to see host and service configurations compared against the latest attributes applied in the front end. There are extra options to determine the detail of logs and status maps, and flexible downtimes come with added information on ‘trigger’ and ‘in-effect’ times to reflect the fix made in the core.

Icinga Web too comes with a config view, thanks to a new global master configuration cronk accessible to appkit_admins. Creating your own custom cronks are now easier than ever, with the option to ‘Save’ or ‘Save As’ your latest filtered view. The most exciting development however, is in the backend. We’ve integrated an in-house extension we call Doctrine Query Language (DQL) views that enable advance users and devs to design their own cronk modules that collect data from external databases and systems – all via the configuration. Check out our wiki on using templates to write your own grid-based views!

Last but not least, we’ve made some users happy – standardizing many of Icinga Web’s calculations with those in the Classic UI. These include check execution time, problem duration, pending states, performance info and more.

So have fun with Icinga 1.7 and as usual your feedback is always welcome on our mailing lists and development tracker. With the new changes, packages should be coming soon – so keep your eyes peeled. Cheers to all the testers and contributors that have helped make this release happen!

CHANGE LOG SUMMARY

Icinga turns 3 years old today and what better birthday surprise could there be, than to hit the 100,000th download mark!

In this past year we’ve bid farewell to the Icinga API, replacing the database API with a Doctrine abstraction layer. Classic UI got a tactical overview header while Icinga Web an <a href="https://www.icinga.org/2011/09/01/new-icinga-reporting-cronk/%3Epre-installed%20reporting%20cronk%3C/a%3E%20and%20%3Ca%20href="https://www.icinga.org/2011/12/14/sla-reporting-with-added-precision/">optional SLA extension for greater reporting precision. This was a small triumph of ours, in response to the old grumble in the community to better use data written to the database.

On the side, we’ve also added a build/package server for Debian and Ubuntu users as well as source snapshots for testers, even refurbished the website and added a merchandise shop.

Behind all this, our team has added a few extra faces from the USA, UK, Germany, Australia and Slovenia. They include the first graduates from this year’s Icinga Padawan program, who have extended our Icinga Virtual Appliances to Debian, OpenSUSE and CentOS as well as open our official Freenode IRC group.

Alongside these developments we have seen the number of self-proclaimed Icinga users double in just this last year. Organisations range in industry and size, from universities and healthcare providers to automotive and construction; large retailers the likes of Müller and European governmental agencies.

The last three years have been an amazing accomplishment for us and was only possible with the support of our Icinga friends. For those unfamiliar with it, the WAP interface was designed to display network status details on small LCD screens for mobiles before the advent of the smartphone.

With it you could view host group summaries, host and service statuses, (de)activate checks and notifications as well as acknowledge problems – all from your internet-enabled Nokia 6100.

Sadly since forking 3 years ago, we have not heard a single word on it from users, let alone bug reports or feature requests.

Combined with the fact that Icinga Mobile, Android and iOS apps are very cool – we’re thinking about removing WAP functionality from the CGIs, and investing our efforts elsewhere. But just to be sure, we thought we’d check with you – our Icinga user and developer community first:
